What Elijah Cummings Is Trying to Hide About Corruption in Baltimore (And On His Congressional Panel!)

(TPP) – Last week’s news cycle was absolutely dominated by the fact that the President of the United States pointed out that a corrupt, crime-ridden, Democratic-run city was, well, corrupt and crime-ridden because it was run by Democrats!

The Democrat-media complex scrambled to loudly accuse him of racism, clutching their pearls and waxing hysterical all week long.

They also, without a second thought, adamantly defended the state of a city where schools don’t have the funds to heat classrooms in the winter, 13 of the city’s high schools have literally no children that are proficient in math, the murder rate is higher than New York City’s and twice that of Chicago’s, and just recently the mayor was forced to resign amid evedience of corruption and embezzlement.

Methinks the Dems did protest too much.

You see, the truth of the matter is that everyone already knew that President Trump was absolutely right about Baltimore.

To begin with, millions in federal funding cannot be accounted for in Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD)’s fair home city.

Breitbart reports:

The city of Baltimore cannot account for the billions of dollars it receives in federal funding as crime, drugs, and rats run rampant in the city, according to a recent report on the city’s expenses.

According to a 2018 audit of the city’s finances provided by USASpending.gov, Baltimore received $5.44 billion in federal grants, contracts, and other financial assistance.

Baltimore city is just part of Rep. Elijah Cumming’s (D-MD) district, which received more than $9 billion in federal funding over the past year and more than $15 billion over the past two years of his current congressional session.

Institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins Medical Services Corp, and University of Maryland’s research and medical care programs get $3 billion in federal funding, the Baltimore Sun reported.

“Baltimore over the past five years has received $900 million in just operating and capital expenses that doesn’t include the billions of dollars going to the different agencies,” David Williams with the Taxpayers Protection Alliance told WBFF. “For example $1.1 billion has gone toward the housing authority in Baltimore.

But the problem is, millions of the $5.44 billion in federal grants remain “unaccounted for,” with many of the awarded amounts showing up as $0 in the audit for entries like “Baltimore City Mayor’s Office,” “Baltimore City Housing Police,” “Baltimore City Health Department,” and “Baltimore City Public School Systems.”

Then there is the jaw-dropping muder rate in the city Democrats are currently defending. The Washington Examiner reported

In an analysis of the murder rates done after President Trump criticized Baltimore Rep. Elijah Cummings over the weekend, Baltimore’s was reported at 56 per 100,000. The city is on track for 340 murders.

By comparison, said the Princeton Policy Advisors analysis, the murder rate in El Salvador was 50, in Guatemala it was 22 and Honduras was 38.

Let’s also not forget that Rep. Cummings himself, who has been playing the victim hard through this whole thing, is currently under investigation for corruption.

Also from the Examiner:

A watchdog group is asking the Maryland attorney general to investigate whether Rep. Elijah Cummings and his wife used a charity for improper self-enrichment, according to a copy of the complaint obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, which leans conservative, filed the complaint on Monday against the Center for Global Policy Solutions, a nonprofit organization founded by Cummings’ wife, Maya Rockeymoore.

The complaint asked Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh to investigate the financial relationship between the Center for Global Policy Solutions and Rockeymoore’s for-profit consulting firm, Global Policy Solutions LLC.

The similarly named entities shared an address, phone number, projects, funding sources, and had a cost-sharing arrangement that raises questions about a “potentially improper financial benefit to Ms. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings and her husband, Representative Elijah Cummings,” the complaint asserts.

“This is a unique situation that warrants necessary oversight to maintain public confidence in nonprofit donations,” said FACT’s executive director Kendra Arnold in a letter to Frosh.

Rockeymoore’s foundation came under scrutiny earlier this year after the Washington Examiner reported that the foundation had accepted millions of dollars from corporations and special interest groups with business before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, a committee led by Cummings, a Maryland congressman.

Rockeymoore’s nonprofit group received over $6.2 million in grants between 2013 and 2016 from special interest groups and corporations. Several of the nonprofit group’s financial backers, which included Google, J.P. Morgan, and Prudential, have business interests before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Cummings has served as Democratic chairman of the committee since January and previously served as ranking member.
